Annotation: THIS DIRECTORY LISTS STRUCTURED RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA WHICH ARE DESIGNED TO HELP THE SOCIALLY HANDICAPPED GRADUALLY REENTER SOCIETY.
Abstract: ADULT AND JUVENILE PROGRAMS FOR ALCOHOLICS, DRUG ABUSERS, CORRECTIONS, AND THE MENTALLY ILL ARE INCLUDED. THE LISTINGS INCLUDE BOTH TRANSITIONAL RESIDENCES AND THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES THAT BELONG TO THE INTERNATIONAL HALFWAY HOUSE ASSOCIATION. HOWEVER, AGENCIES WHICH DEAL SOLELY WITH THE MEDICALLY ILL AND INFIRM ARE EXCLUDED AS ARE THOSE WHICH ARE ONLY SHELTERED WORKSHOPS OR LONG-TERM RESIDENTIAL CARE PROGRAMS. THE LISTINGS ARE ALPHABETICAL, FIRST BY STATE OR PROVINCE, THEN BY CITY OR TOWN. IN ADDITION TO NAME OF FACILITY, ADDRESS, AND PHONE NUMBER, THE DIRECTORY PROVIDES, WHERE AVAILABLE, THE NAME OF THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR; THE DATE THE PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED; THE CAPACITY, AGES, AND SEX SERVED; AND ITS FUNCTION. AN INTERNATIONAL LISTINGS SECTION PROVIDES INFORMATION ON ASSOCIATION MEMBERS IN AUSTRALIA, DENMARK, ENGLAND, NEW ZEALAND, AND PUERTO RICO. (GLR)
