Abstract: RAPE LAWS IN THE UNITED STATES MUST BE CHANGED SO THAT THE VICTIM NO LONGER BEARS THE GUILT OF THE CRIME. CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS HAVE DEVELOPED SOME NEIGHBORHOOD INVOLVEMENT PROGRAMS TO HELP REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF ALL TYPES OF CRIME. BUT SEVERAL MEASURES CAN BE TAKEN TO MINIMIZE RISK OF RAPE. WOMEN ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO ANYTHING WHICH MIGHT SCARE OFF THE ATTACKER, ESPECIALLY WHEN HE DOES NOT HAVE A WEAPON. IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF INCIDENT EXPOSURE CASES, WOMEN SHOULD LAUGH AT THE OFFENDER INSTEAD OF GETTING UPSET. SINCE MANY RAPISTS ARE PEEPING TOMS AS WELL, WOMEN SHOULD KEEP THEIR CURTAINS DRAWN WHILE DRESSING. RAPISTS THEMSELVES SAY THAT SOME WOMEN MAKE EASY TARGETS BY COMING HOME FROM WORK THE SAME TIME EVERY DAY AND FOLLOWING A REGULAR ROUTINE. IN ORDER TO PREVENT RAPES, WOMEN SHOULD BE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT THEIR DAILY ROUTINES. BUT THERE ALSO IS THE NEED TO CHANGE THE MALE POINT OF VIEW ABOUT THE OPPOSITE SEX. WOMEN'S ORGANIZATIONS SAY THAT MEN MUST BE MADE TO REALIZE WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE THOUGHT OF AS A PIECE OF MEAT. EACH POTENTIAL RAPIST NEEDS INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT TO OVERCOME HIS PROBLEMS OF SEXUALITY. RAPE CRISIS CENTERS MAY BE A WAY TO HELP POTENTIAL RAPISTS BEFORE THE OFFENSE. MOST OF ALL COMMUNITIES MUST GET INVOLVED IN RAPE PREVENTION. (BAC)
