Annotation: THIS FILM CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF DRAMATIZATIONS OF PRACTICAL STREET SITUATIONS WHICH ILLUSTRATE THE NEED FOR GREATER OFFICER AWARENESS OF SAFETY WHILE ON NIGHT PATROL.
Abstract: THE SEGMENTS DEMONSTRATE THE KIND OF NIGHT VISIBILITY PROBLEMS MOST LIKELY TO CAUSE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OR INJURY. COMMENTARIES BY POLICE OFFICERS ARE USED TO REINFORCE THE SERIOUSNESS OF THEIR SAFETY PROBLEMS. OFFICER ATTITUDE ON SAFETY IS AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF EACH OFFICER'S DAILY ROUTINE. WHEN THE POLICE OFFICER IS ASSIGNED TO NIGHT DUTY, THE PREPATROL ROUTINE MUST INCLUDE A CHECK OF FLASHLIGHTS, SAFETY FLARES, AND SPECIAL REFLECTIVE OUTERWEAR. THE PROBLEMS AND IMPORTANCE OF NIGHT VISIBILITY ON THE STREET ARE PRESENTED IN SEVERAL SCENES WHERE THE POLICE OFFICER MUST HELP AT AN ACCIDENT SCENE OBSCURED BY DARKNESS AND POOR VISIBILITY. THE BENEFITS OF REFLECTORIZED CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING VARIOUS KINDS OF HIGH-VISIBILITY CLOTHING, ARE IDENTIFIED. OTHER SAFETY HINTS ARE PROVIDED, SUCH AS ADDING REFLECTOR TAPE TO PARTS OF THE UNIFORM. (BAC)
