Abstract: GUIDELINES ARE PROVIDED FOR THE VICTIMS OF FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICES ON HOW TO FILE CLAIMS WITH THE CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CALIF., ISSUER OF THIS PAMPHLET. THE TYPES OF FRAUD DISCUSSED INCLUDE UNNECESSARY AND OVERPRICED AUTOREPAIRS AND DECEPTION IN USED CAR SALES, HOME IMPROVEMENTS, RETIREMENT HOMES, DOOR-TO-DOOR SELLING, CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS, MEDICAL SERVICES, COMPUTER DATING SERVICES, AND SUBSIDIZED PUBLISHING (VANITY PRESSES). OTHER CASES OF FRAUD IDENTIFIED RANGE FROM EMBEZZLEMENT AND PETTY LARCENY BY EMPLOYEES TO SHOPLIFTING, COMPUTER-AIDED FRAUD, CREDIT CARD FRAUD, AND ILLEGAL COLLECTION AGENCIES. INSTRUCTIONS ON FILING COMPLAINTS BY LETTER AND BY TELEPHONE WITH THE PROPER AUTHORITIES INCLUDE A SAMPLE COMPLAINT LETTER.
