Annotation: A 1974 SURVEY OF SWEDISH POLICE OFFICERS' ATTITUDES TOWARDS POLICE MANAGEMENT, EDUCATION AND TRAINING, DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY AND DECISIONMAKING, WORK ENVIRONMENTS, AND SALARY AND BENEFITS IS PRESENTED.
Abstract: A QUESTIONNAIRE WAS MAILED TO ALL OFFICERS IN SWEDISH POLICE DISTRICTS, AND THE 1,349 RESPONSES WERE GROUPED ACCORDING TO DISTRICT SIZE AND JOB LEVEL OF RESPONDENTS. CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN TO THE AGE, SEX, AND POSITION OF RESPONDENTS, AS WELL AS TO WORK EXPERIENCE. THE MAJORITY OF RESPONDENTS WERE SATISFIED WITH THEIR WORK IN REGARD TO FEELINGS OF ACCOMPLISHMENT AND JOB FREEDOM, SUPERVISION, WORKING CONDITIONS, SALARIES, AND BENEFITS. ALTHOUGH ONLY 6 PERCENT OF SUPERVISORY POSITIONS ARE HELD BY WOMEN, 31 PERCENT OF THE FEMALES SURVEYED REPLIED THAT THEY PREFER TO HAVE MALE SUPERVISORS. A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF OFFICERS COMPLAINED THAT POLICE OFFICER TRAINING AND EDUCATION IS INSUFFICIENT FOR THEIR NEEDS, AND THERE WAS SOME DISSATISFACTION WITH THE WILLINGNESS OF SUPERVISORS TO LISTEN TO EMPLOYEES' COMPLAINTS AND SUGGESTIONS. --IN SWEDISH.
