Annotation: DIAGNOSTIC METHODS TO EVALUATE AND TREAT BIOCHEMICAL IMBALANCES ASSOCIATED WITH BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS ARE REVIEWED. BOTH PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING ARE RECOMMENDED.
Abstract: THE PROTOCOL SUGGESTED FOR DIAGNOSING THE CAUSES OF BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS INVOLVES THE FOLLOWING: (1) CAREFUL GATHERING OF A CASE HISTORY INCLUDING DATA ON COMMONLY EATEN FOODS AND ALLERGY SYMPTOMS; (2) BLOOD AND URINE ANALYSIS; (3) SPECTRAL ANALYSIS FOR TRACE METALS; (4) HISTAMINE STUDIES; (5) PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING INCLUDING A SENSORY DISPERCEPTION TEST; (6) A TEST FOR HYPOGLYCEMIA, GENERALLY A GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST; (7) ALLERGY TESTS; AND (8) TESTS FOR PYROLURIA, HISTAPENIA, AND HISTADELIA. EXPLANATIONS FOR EACH TEST ARE PROVIDED, SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH EACH BIOCHEMICAL IMBALANCE ARE DESCRIBED, AND DETAILS OF THE TESTING PROCEDURE ARE BRIEFLY REVIEWED. A TABLE LISTS STANDARD SCREENING STUDIES TOGETHER WITH NORMAL READINGS AND CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH BOTH HIGH AND LOW READINGS. A CHART PRESENTS TYPICAL GLUCOSE TOLERANCE CURVES. THE ARTICLE EMPHASIZES THE ASSOCIATION BETWEEN BIOLOGICAL FACTORS AND ASOCIAL OR PSYCHOTIC BEHAVIOR. REFERENCES ARE INCLUDED. (GLR)
