Abstract: STATE COURTS OF LAST RESORT, THE NUMBER, TERMS, AND COMPENSATION FOR JUDGES OF APPELLATE AND MAJOR TRIAL COURTS, AND THE QUALIFICATIONS, TERMS, AND COMPENSATION OF TRIAL AND LIMITED JURISDICTION COURT JUDGES, ARE DISCUSSED ALONG WITH JUDGES' RETIREMENT AND PENSION BENEFITS. THE REPORT PRESENTS DATA ON THE FINAL SELECTION AND REMOVAL OF JUDGES IN STATE COURTS AND ON FILLING COURT VACANCIES. SELECTED DATA ON COURT ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES IS PROVIDED AS WELL AS INFORMATION ON LEGAL AND CLERICAL PERSONNEL FOR STATE COURTS OF LAST RESORT INCLUDING COMMISSIONERS, LAW CLERKS, AND SECRETARIES AND CLERICAL HELP. THE INFORMATION IS BASED ON DATA SOLICITED FROM CHIEF JUSTICES OF STATE COURTS OF LAST RESORT AND FROM COURT ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICERS, AND IT IS DIRECTED AT MEMBERS OF THE JUDICIARY, STATE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS, LEGISLATORS, AND PERSONS INTERESTED IN COURT STRUCTURE.
