Abstract: THE BOOK CONSISTS OF A SERIES OF SHORT, NARRATIVE SECTIONS SUMMARIZING LAWS, DEPARTMENTAL POLICIES, AND ACCEPTED PROCEDURES GOVERNING MARYLAND TRAFFIC POLICE OFFICERS. FOLLOWING EACH SECTION THERE IS A SHORT TEST. TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE JURISDICTION BOUNDARIES; LAWS REGARDING PURSUIT ACROSS COUNTY OR MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES AND ACROSS STATE BOUNDARIES; GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR PURSUIT; PREPARATION FOR TRAFFIC PATROL; PATROL PROCEDURES; TRAFFIC ROAD CHECK PROCEDURES; AND GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF OBSERVATION FOR DETECTING VIOLATIONS. THE SECTION ON DETECTING VIOLATIONS EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ALERT TO THE LESS OBVIOUS TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS AND SUSPICIOUS DRIVING BEHAVIORS.
