Annotation: PRACTICAL STEPS FOR PROTECTING ONESELF AGAINST CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION IN VARIOUS SURROUNDINGS ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED FOR THE BENEFIT OF TEENAGE GIRLS.
Abstract: SUGGESTIONS ARE OFFERED FOR REDUCING THE LIKELIHOOD OF CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION IN PLACES AND CIRCUMSTANCES SUCH AS HOME, APARTMENT. THE STREETS, PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, PERSONAL CAR, BABY-SITTING, RECREATIONAL PLACES, AND ON DATES. RESOURCES FOR DEFENSE AGAINST CRIMINAL ATTACK ARE ALSO CONSIDERED. STEPS TO AID IN REDUCING CRIME IN GENERAL ARE DESCRIBED AS WELL. IN ADDITION TO SUGGESTIONS FOR PREVENTING CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION, GUIDELINES FOR BEING SAFE FROM FIRE IN PRIVATE RESIDENCES AND PUBLIC PLACES ARE PRESENTED, ALONG WITH A DISCUSSION ON HOW TO BE SAFE FROM GAS EXPLOSION. THE THREE BASIC RULES PRESENTED TO REDUCE THE LIKELIHOOD OF CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION ARE (1) AVOID BEING ALONE IN PLACES WHERE NO ONE CAN SEE OR HEAR YOU; (2) THERE IS SAFETY IN NUMBERS; AND (3) MAKE SURE RELATIVES OR FRIENDS KNOW THE PERSONS WITH YOU. THE BOOK IS DESIGNED TO BE USED FOR DISCUSSION. (RCB)
