Abstract: ORGANIZED GROUPS, SUCH AS THE INTERNATIONAL MARXIST GROUP (IMG) SUPPORT THE URBAN VIOLENCE OF THE ARABS AND THE IRISH REPUBLICAN ARMY (IRA) BY PARTICIPATING IN DEMONSTRATIONS AND FOMENTING DISSENT THROUGH LITERARY PERIODICALS. UNLIKE THESE SYMPATHETIC INDIVIDUALS WHO PUBLICIZE THEIR SUPPORT OF RADICAL GROUPS, FREELANCE ANARCHISTS MAINTAIN SECRECY BECAUSE THEY BELONG TO NO LEFT-WING PARTY AND REJECT ALL FORMS OF ORGANIZATION. SUCH PEOPLE MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE 1973 BOMBINGS IN LONDON AND BIRMINGHAM WHICH ENTAILED KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL STREETS, SHIPS, AND RAILWAY STATIONS. A BLACK SEPTEMBER RAIDING PARTY WOULD PREFER THE HELP OF SYMPATHETIC BRITISH-BORN CITIZENS, WHO COULD PROVIDE FALSE PAPERS OR FALSE LICENSE PLATES FOR CARS, RATHER THAN THE ASSISTANCE OF THE NONPOLITICAL CRIMINAL UNDERWORLD. IN THE FUTURE, URBAN GUERRILLA GROUPS WILL RELY ON THE INTERNATIONAL FRATERNITY OF OTHER URBAN GUERRILLA GROUPS FOR THEIR SOURCE OF FUNDS. MONEY OBTAINED FROM THE LIBYAN GOVERNMENT OR THROUGH SUCCESSFUL TERRORIST KIDNAPPINGS IN LATIN AMERICA WILL CONTINUE TO SUBSIDIZE FUTURE OPERATIONS, WHOSE SUCCESS IS ENSURED BY CONTINUED CIVILIAN ACQUIESCENCE TO TERRORIST DEMANDS. HOWEVER, FUTURE PROSPECTS FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM ARE BRIGHTENED BY THE DIMINISHED CATHOLIC SUPPORT FOR THE IRA, INCREASED COOPERATIVE EFFORTS IN NORTHERN IRELAND, MEDIA REPRESENTATIONS OF THE DANGEROUS IMPLICATIONS OF TERRORISM, AND THE SUCCESSFUL RESPONSE OF THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT TO TERRORISTS. FOOTNOTES ARE INCLUDED. (WJR)
