Annotation: PRACTICAL STEPS FOR BUSINESS EXECUTIVES AND THEIR FAMILIES TO TAKE TO PREVENT BEING KIDNAPPED ARE PRESENTED IN THIS HANDBOOK.
Abstract: THE HANDBOOK IS PROVIDED TO COUNTER AN ASPECT OF TERRORIST STRATEGY THAT INVOLVES KIDNAPPING IMPORTANT BUSINESS EXECUTIVES OR THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS TO SECURE LARGE SUMS OF MONEY OR INTIMIDATE REPRESENTATIVES OF AN UNWANTED ECONOMIC SYSTEM. A CHECKLIST IS GIVEN FOR THE SELECTION OF A FAMILY RESIDENCE WHOSE LOCATION AND CONSTRUCTION ARE NOT CONDUCIVE TO KIDNAP ATTEMPTS. PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW REGULARLY AT THE OFFICE TO PROVIDE SECURITY AGAINST KIDNAPPING ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. GUIDELINES TO BE FOLLOWED IN EMPLOYING AND INTERACTING WITH FAMILY SERVANTS ARE PRESENTED, AND PREVENTIVE STEPS FOR SELECTING AND USING AIR TRAVEL AND VEHICULAR TRANSPORTATION ARE LISTED. SECURITY MEASURES ON BEHALF OF VISITING DIGNITARIES ARE ALSO PROVIDED. 'DOS' AND 'DON'TS' FOR WALKING ROUTES ARE GIVEN. SUGGESTED BEHAVIOR IN CASE A KIDNAPPING OCCURS (COMPLY WITH CAPTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS, STAY CALM, AVOID UPSETTING THE CAPTORS) IS DESCRIBED. THE HANDBOOK CONCLUDES WITH SOME GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS SUCH AS HAVING SUFFICIENT LANGUAGE ABILITY TO ASK FOR EMERGENCY AID, KNOWING HOW TO USE LOCAL PAY PHONES, AND IMPLEMENTING AND REGULARLY CHECKING HOME SECURITY SYSTEMS AND PROCEDURES.
