Annotation: THIS YEARLY REPORT OF THE TREMONT COMMUNITY COUNCIL ANTI-CRIME PROGRAM (BRONX, NEW YORK) DETAILS THE SERVICES PROVIDED TO COMMUNITY RESIDENTS FROM JULY 1978 TO SEPTEMBER 1979 IN ORDER TO REDUCE CRIME IN A LOW-INCOME COMMUNITY.
Abstract: THE REPORT CONTAINS THE PROJECT DIRECTOR'S DESCRIPTION OF THE POPULATION AND SOCIOECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF THE TREMONT-FORDHAM AREA WHERE THE COUNCIL OFFICE IS LOCATED AND A DISCUSSION OF THE CRIME POROBLEM; THE PROJECT ASSISTANT'S DESCRIPTION OF YOUTH ORGANIZATION ACTIVITIES, CRIME PREVENTION PROJECTS, AND ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION OF THE TREMONT/FORDHAM AREA; AND ADDITIONAL REPORTS BY THE SECRETARY BOOKKEEPER, THE YOUTH ORGANIZER, THE PARENT ORGANIZER, THE TWO TENANT FACILITATORS, THE TWO DRIVERS, AND THE ASSISTANT IN THE VICTIM WITNESS COMPONENT FOR SENIOR CITIZENS. THE REPORT CONCLUDES THAT THE COUNCIL'S ANTICRIME ACTIVITIES HAVE ENHANCED NEIGHBORHOOD STABILIZATION, HAVE HELPED TO MOBILIZE PARENTS AND IMPROVE PARENT-SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS, HAVE PERMITTED A WIDER RANGE OF YOUTH ACTIVITIES INCLUDING VOLUNTEER WORK, AND HAVE HELPED IN AREA PLANNING AND ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION. IN ADDITION, CRIME PREVENTION WORKSHOPS, COORDINATED BY THE LOCAL 48TH PRECINCT, HAVE IMPROVED POLICE-COMMUNIY RELATIONS. TABULAR DATA ARE GIVEN.
