Annotation: THE FORENSIC SCIENCE SOCIETY PRESENTS A BIBLIOGRAPHY ON ETHYL ALCOHOL FOR FORENSIC SCIENCE, MEDICINE, AND LAW, WITH A TOTAL OF 1,633 JOURNAL CITATIONS.
Abstract: THE TWO MAIN SOURCES OF REFERENCE WERE ENGLAND'S CENTRAL RESEARCH ESTABLISHMENT'S COLLECTION OF FORENSIC SCIENCE LITERATURE AND THE U.S. NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE (MEDLINE) COMPUTERIZED LITERATURE COMPILATION. SOME 12,000 REFERENCES FROM THESE SOURCES WERE SCREENED FOR THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY. THE MAJORITY OF PAPERS CITED SHOULD BE OF USE TO FORENSIC SCIENTISTS AND TO THOSE INVOLVED IN LEGAL MATTERS. TOPIC AREAS ADDRESS SUCH ISSUES AS HOW ALCOHOL AFFECTS DRIVING PERFORMANCES, HOW QUICKLY IT DISAPPEARS FROM THE BODY, AND HOW IT ACTS IN COMBINATION WITH OTHER DRUGS. EXPERIMENT PAPERS WERE RESTRICTED TO STUDIES WHICH INVOLVE HUMAN SUBJECTS. ALTHOUGH MOST CITATIONS REFLECT RECENT INFORMATION (1970-1980), MANY EARLIER PAPERS ARE CITED AS DEFINITIVE IN A PARTICULAR FIELD OF ALCOHOL STUDY AND MAY DATE AS FAR BACK AS THE EARLY 1900'S. THE AUTHOR, TITLE, AND JOURNAL REFERENCE DETAILS HAVE BEEN ACCESSED ON A COMPUTER FILE, THUS ENABLING INFORMATION TO BE PRINTED ACCORDING TO SUBJECT, AUTHOR, JOURNAL, AND CITATION REFERENCE NUMBER. DIRECTIONS FOR USING THE SUBJECT, AUTHOR, AND JOURNAL INDEXES TO THE BIBLIOGRAPHY ARE PROVIDED. JOURNAL ABBREVIATIONS CONFORM TO THE CHEMICAL ABSTRACTS SERVICE SOURCE INDEX RECOMMENDATIONS. (MHP)
Index Term(s): Alcohol consumption analysis; Alcohol-Related Offenses; Alcoholic beverages; Driving Under the Influence (DUI); Evidence identification; Forensic medicine
