Abstract: THE GOAL OF THE SEMINAR WAS TO INCREASE UNDERSTANDING OF THE ANTISOCIAL ACT, ITS MODES OF EXPRESSION, AND THE SOCIAL INADEQUACIES THAT ENGENDER AND MAINTAIN IT IN ORDER TO HELP COUNTRIES IDENTIFY AND RESOLVE THEIR SOCIAL CONFLICTS. SEMINAR PARTICIPANTS INCLUDED LAWYERS, JUDGES, LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL, CORRECTIONS OFFICIALS, PSYCHIATRISTS, SOCIAL WORKERS, ACADEMICIANS, JOURNALISTS, AND OTHERS. MOST PARTICPANTS WERE FROM THE IVORY COAST. INDIVIDUAL CHAPTERS OF THE PROCEEDINGS DISCUSS THE CONFERENCE PURPOSE, THE EVOLUTION OF CRIME IN THE IVORY COAST, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION IN THE IVORY COAST, THE ROLE AND FUNCTION OF THE RURAL CONSTABULARY, AND SUMMARIES OF DISCUSSIONS ON URBAN AND RURAL CRIME IN WEST AFRICA. A MAP, FIGURES, TABLES, FOOTNOTES, AND APPENDIXES DISCUSSING SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF CRIME IN WEST AFRICA, CRIME IN NIGERIA, EXCERPTS FROM FRENCH LANGUAGE PRESS ACCOUNTS OF THE CONFERENCE, AND A LIST OF PARTICIPANTS, ARE INCLUDED.
