Abstract: ALTHOUGH THE INFORMATION PROVIDED FROM EACH FACILITY IS NOT ALWAYS THE SAME, THAT GENERALLY GIVEN IS THE NAME OF THE SUPERINTENDENT, COUNTY WHERE LOCATED, ACREAGE, RATED INMATE POPULATION CAPACITY, TYPE OF UNIT (PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY), HIGHWAY QUOTA (NUMBER OF INMATES ASSIGNED TO HIGHWAY WORK), AND TYPE OF INMATE POPULATION (FELON OR MISDEMEANT). IN SOME CASES, THE YEAR THE FACILITY WAS ESTABLISHED, NUMBER OF BUILDINGS, TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES, AND THE ACTUAL INMATE POPULATION AS OF JULY 1, 1978, ARE PROVIDED. INMATE PROGRAMS ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED, USUALLY UNDER THE CATEGORIES OF WORK, EDUCATION, COUNSELING, RECREATION, RELIGIOUS SERVICES, PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES, MEDICAL SERVICES, AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS.
