Abstract: THE DIRECTORY WAS COMPILED BY THE FORENSIC SCIENCE SOCIETY AND IS CURRENT THROUGH 1977. ENTRIES ARE GROUPED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER ACCORDING TO COUNTRY, AND INSTITUTIONS WITHIN EACH GROUP ARE FURTHER ALPHABETIZED ACCORDING TO CITY. FIELDS OF INVESTIGATION IN WHICH THE LABORATORY IS INVOLVED ARE SPECIFIED. FOR EXAMPLE, THE BRITISH COLUMBIA BIOMEDICAL LABORATORY OF NEW WESTMINSTER SPECIALIZES IN PATHOLOGY INVESTIGATIONS, AND THE CHIEF MEDICAL EXAMINER'S LABORATORY OF DETROIT SPECIALIZES IN ALCOHOL, BLOOD, AND URINE ANALYSIS; PATHOLOGY; AND TOXICOLOGY. A TOTAL OF 57 FIELDS OF INVESTIGATION ARE KEYED TO REFERENCE NUMBERS WHICH FOLLOW THE NAME AND ADDRESS LISTING. THE SPECIALIZATIONS INCLUDE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION, AUTOMOBILE EXAMINATION, FINGERPRINTS, FOOD AND DRUGS, HANDWRITING, NEUTRON ACTIVATION, POLYGRAPH EXAMINATIONS, AND QUESTIONED DOCUMENTS, AMONG OTHERS. THE EXTENSIVE LIST WAS COMPILED FOR PURPOSE OF INFORMING ALL FORENSIC SCIENTISTS WHERE AND IN WHAT FIELDS OF WORK THEIR COUNTERPARTS ARE ACTIVE AND TO IDENTIFY FOR LAWYERS THE ESTABLISHMENTS WHICH CAN PROVIDE THEM WITH EXPERT SCIENTIFIC ASSISTANCE AND ADVICE. APPROXIMATELY 90 COUNTRIES ARE REPRESENTED IN THE WORK INCLUDING BELGIUM, ETHIOPIA, ITALY, THE UNITED KINGDOM, THE UNITED STATES, FRANCE, GREECE, ISRAEL, AND SPAIN. (LWM)
