THE HANDBOOK WILL BE COMPILED EVERY 2 YEARS. THE STATISTICS CONTAINED IN THIS HANDBOOK COVER THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS: PRISONS; PROBATION SERVICES; BORSTAL SCHOOLS; IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CHILDREN ACTS; IMPLEMENTATION OF SUPPRESSION OF IMMORAL TRAFFIC IN WOMEN AND GIRLS ACT; AND BEGGARS' HOMES. THE TABLES PRESENTED HAVE BEEN COMPILED ON THE BASIS OF RETURNS SENT BY THE GOVERNMENTS OF 21 STATES AND 9 UNION TERRITORIES. SPECIFIC TABLES OFFER INFORMATION ON THE NUMBER AND TYPE OF FACILITIES, THE NUMBER AND CHARACTERISTICS OF INMATES OR CLIENTS, RELEASE STATISTICS, PROGRAM AND PERSONNEL QUANTITY, AND PROGRAM EXPENSES ON A YEARLY BASIS.
