Annotation: THIS MANUAL IS A COMPILATION OF THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION ON PRACTICAL ENERGY CONSERVING TECHNIQUES FOR HOTEL AND MOTEL OPERATIONS.
Abstract: ORGANIZED TO AID HOTEL AND MOTEL MANAGERS AND STAFF IN ESTABLISHING AND IMPLEMENTING AN ENERGY CONSERVATION PROGRAM, THE MANUAL PRESENTS A BROAD RANGE OF MATERIAL, INCLUDING METHODS ON HOW TO ORGANIZE AND IMPLEMENT AN ENERGY CONSERVATION PROGRAM, ENERGY CONSERVATION OPPORTUNITIES WITHOUT MAJOR COST, AND ENERGY CONSERVATION OPPORTUNITIES REQUIRING ADDITIONAL COST. THE NEED FOR A STRONG MANAGEMENT COMMITMENT TO THE PROGRAM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF INVOLVING ALL STAFF PERSONNEL IS EMPHASIZED. BY FOLLOWING THE DETAILED INFORMATION ON INEXPENSIVE ENERGY CONSERVATION OPPORTUNITIES, MANAGEMENT CAN REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY 15 TO 30 PERCENT, DEPENDING UPON EXISTING CONDITIONS OF THE PROPERTY. SUGGESTIONS ARE GIVEN FOR THE FOLLOWING DEPARTMENTS: HOUSEKEEPING, FRONT OFFICE, FOOD AND BEVERAGE, MEETINGS AND CONVENTIONS, ENGINEERING AND MAINTENANCE, LAUNDRY, AND SECURITY. OTHER MAJOR ENERGY CONSERVATION OPPORTUNITIES WILL REQUIRE ALTERATIONS OR REPLACEMENTS OF EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS AND THE EXPENDITURE OF MODERATE TO SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNTS OF MONEY AS A CAPITAL INVESTMENT. UTILIZING THESE OPPORTUNITIES WILL RESULT IN ENERGY RECOVERY, REDUCTION OF ENERGY REQUIREMENTS, AND INCREASED EFFICIENCY OF ENERGY USE. CHECKLISTS, TABLES, AND DRAWINGS COMPLEMENT THE TEXT. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS TECHNICAL DATA, DEFINITIONS, AND OTHER INFORMATION USEFUL AS REFERENCE MATERIAL IN IMPLEMENTING AN ENERGY CONSERVATION PROGRAM. FOR SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL, SEE NCJ 66074.
