Annotation: THE REPORT PRESENTS THE RESPONSES TO TWO QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO MEMBER COUNTRIES OF THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL POLICE ORGANIZATION ON THE USE OF COMPUTERS IN POLICE WORK.
Abstract: THE FIRST QUESTIONNAIRE, CONCERNING THE FIELDS IN WHICH COMPUTERS ARE USED, WAS INTENDED FOR COUNTRIES ALREADY USING COMPUTERS TO RECORD AND PROCESS DATA AND TO HELP POLICE SOLVE PROBLEMS. THE SECOND QUESTIONNAIRE WAS INTENDED FOR COUNTRIES WITH DEFINITE PLANS TO START USING COMPUTERS BY DECEMBER 31, 1971. REPLIES WERE RECEIVED FROM 22 COUNTRIES. A TOTAL OF 14 COUNTRIES WERE ALREADY USING COMPUTERS: THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY, ARGENTINA, AUSTRIA, CANADA, DENMARK, THE UNITED STATES, FRANCE, GREECE, INDONESIA, ISRAEL, JAPAN, LEBANON, THE UNITED KINGDOM, AND SWEDEN. COUNTRIES PLANNING TO INTRODUCE COMPUTERS INCLUDED ALGERIA, AUSTRALIA, CHILE, KOREA, INDIA, LUXEMBOURG, PORTUGAL, AND YUGOSLAVIA. FOR EACH COUNTRY THAT RESPONDED TO THE FIRST QUESTIONNAIRE, INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ABOUT FIELDS IN WHICH COMPUTERS ARE USED, FUTURE USES OF COMPUTERS, AND OTHER COMMENTS. CONCERNING THE SECOND QUESTIONNAIRE, INFORMATION IS GIVEN FOR EACH RESPONDENT ON THE PLANNED FIELDS OF APPLICATION, DATA CONVERSION CODES, AND TYPE OF COMPUTER PLANNED.
