Annotation: THIS DOCUMENT ASSEMBLES ALL ENERGY CONSERVATION REQUIREMENTS AND REFERENCE STANDARDS NOW FOUND IN THE 1978 EDITIONS OF THE BOCA (BUILDING OFFICIALS AND CODE ADMINISTRATORS) CODES.
Abstract: THE ENERGY CONSERVATION REQUIREMENTS OF THE BOCA BASIC CODES ARE BASED ON THE PROVISIONS OF THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF HEATING, REFRIGERATING, AND AIR-CONDITIONING ENGINEERS (ASHRAE) STANDARD 90-75. EACH PARAGRAPH OF THIS STANDARD WAS REVIEWED FOR ITS APPROPRIATENESS AS AN ENFORCEABLE PROVISION. APPLICABLE SECTIONS ARE MODIFIED INTO CODE LANGUAGE. INTENDED FOR STATE, COUNTY, OR LOCAL JURISDICTIONS, THE PROVISIONS IN THIS DOCUMENT CAN READILY BE ADAPTED TO AN EXISTING CODE STRUCTURE OR CAN STAND ALONE AS AN ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE WHERE NO CODE STRUCTURE EXISTS. WHERE THERE IS NO EXISTING CODE, THE ADMINISTRATIVE PROVISIONS NECESSARY FOR PROPER IMPLEMENTATION AND ENFORCEMENT MUST BE INCLUDED WITH THESE PROVISIONS (NOT CONTAINED IN THIS DOCUMENT). BOCA'S ENERGY CONSERVATION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE THE LIGHTING EFFICIENCY STANDARDS OF ASHRAE 90-75 BY REFERENCE ONLY. VERTICAL MARGIN LINES INDICATE CONTENT CHANGE SINCE THE 1977 EDITION TO STREAMLINE THE REVIEW PROCESS FOR JURISDICTIONS WISHING TO ADOPT CURRENT CODE PROVISIONS. THREE ARTICLES COVER SCOPE AND APPLICATION, DEFINITIONS, AND BUILDING ENVELOPE. WARM AIR HEATING, VENTILATING, AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CONTAINED IN ARTICLE 4. ARTICLES 5, 6, AND 7 INCLUDE PLUMBING, ELECTRICAL, AND ALTERNATE SYSTEMS. APPENDIXES INCLUDE REFERENCE STANDARDS AGENCIES, REFERENCE STANDARDS, TEMPERATURE TABLES AND SOLAR FACTORS, THERMAL PROPERTIES OF TYPICAL BUILDING MATERIALS, A GUIDE FOR FUNDAMENTAL PLAN REVIEW AND FIELD INSPECTION IN ENERGY CONSERVATION, AND RECOMMENDED PRACTICE FOR ONE AND TWO-FAMILY DWELLINGS. TABULAR DATA IS GIVEN. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED--AOP)
