Annotation: SELECTION AND PREPARATION PROCESSES FOR TRAINERS OF THE AUXILIARY POLICE IN BREMEN, WEST GERMANY, ARE DESCRIBED.
Abstract: THE GOAL OF AUXILIARY POLICE TRAINING IS DEVELOPMENT OF PRACTICAL SKILLS AND TECHNICALLY SUITABLE METHODS USING INSTRUCTORS WHO ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE LATEST INNOVATIONS. FOR PROPER CONDUCT WITH PRIVATE CITIZENS, AUXILIARY POLICE OFFICERS MUST BE ARTICULATE, WELL-GROOMED, AND SELF-CONFIDENT IN DEMEANOR; TRAINERS MUST EXEMPLIFY THESE CHARACTERISTICS. INSTRUCTORS MUST HAVE A BACKGROUND OF PRACTICAL SERVICE AND TRAINING EXPERIENCE IN THE VARIOUS NON-SPECIALIZED COURSES. POTENTIAL TRAINER CANDIDATES SHOULD AT LEAST HAVE THE EDUCATIONAL LEVEL OF HIGH SCHOOL OR VOCATIONAL TEACHERS, BUT AS THE JOB OFFERS NO FINANCIAL INCENTIVES AND MANY DISADVANTAGES, THE SELECTION WILL BE LIMITED. SENIOR OFFICERS NEED NO ADDITIONAL TRAINING TO BECOME INSTRUCTORS, BUT MIDLEVEL OFFICERS MUST ATTEND AN 11-WEEK TEACHERS' COURSE. THE CURRICULUM INCLUDES 1) THE BASIC ORGANIZATION AND FUNCTION OF THE AUXILIARY POLICE, WITH SPECIAL FIREARMS TRAINING, 2) SPORTS TRAINING METHODOLOGY, 3) THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL PEDAGOGY, CONSIDERING TRAINER FUNCTIONS, GROUP DYNAMICS, COURSE DESIGN, ADULT EDUCATION, VISUAL AIDS, AND GRADING, AND 4) COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS, TO ASSURE SELF-CONFIDENCE IN TEACHING E.G., ARTICULATION, EYE CONTACT, WORD USE, KEY TERM CONCEPTS, ORGANIZATION OF LECTURES, AND BODY LANGUAGE. QUALITY TRAINING FOR POLICE INSTRUCTORS IS DEEMED THE PREREQUISITE FOR EFFICIENCY IN POLICE EDUCATION. CHARTS ARE SUPPLIED. --IN GERMAN.
