Annotation: THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE NORTH DAKOTA JUDICIAL COUNCIL FOR 1979 PRESENTS STATISTICAL AND DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION ON THE OPERATION OF THE NORTH DAKOTA JUDICIAL SYSTEM DURING 1979.
Abstract: THE OPERATION OF THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF COURTS IN 1979 WITHIN THE UNIFIED NORTH DAKOTA JUDICIAL SYSTEM ARE DESCRIBED IN TURN: 1) THE SUPREME COURT, 2) DISTRICT COURTS, 3) COUNTY COURTS WITH INCREASED JURISDICTION, 4) COUNTY JUSTICE COURTS, 5) COUNTY PROBATE COURTS, AND 6) MUNICIPAL COURTS. ALSO EMPHASIZED ARE THE IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF THE STATE COURT ADMINISTRATOR, WHO, UNDER THE UNIFIED JUDICIAL SYSTEM, DIRECTS THE JUDICIAL APPROPRIATION PROCESS, THE PROVISION OF JUDICIAL EDUCATION SERVICES, STATEWIDE PLANNING FOR JUDICIAL NEEDS, AND COORDINATION OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO ALL LEVELS OF THE JUDICIARY. STATISTICAL DATA ARE PRESENTED IN TABULAR AND GRAPHIC FORMAT IN THE FOLLOWING SUBJECT AREAS: 1) CIVIL AND CRIMINAL CASE FILINGS AND DISPOSITIONS BY LEVEL OF COURT, INCLUDING COMPARISON WITH CASELOADS IN PRIOR YEARS, 2) JUDICIAL EXPENDITURE BY CHARACTER AND OBJECT AND BY LEVEL OF COURT, 3) NUMBER OF FORMAL, INFORMAL, AND COUNSEL/ADJUSTED JUVENILE COURTS BY JUDICIAL DISTRICT, AND 4) JUVENILE COURT REASONS FOR REFERRAL BY JUDICIAL DISTRICT. SEPARATE REPORTS ARE GIVEN FOR EACH OF THE SEVEN JUDICIAL DISTRICTS OF THE DISTRICT COURT SYSTEM. THE REPORT CONCLUDES WITH BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF THE 1979 ACTIVITIES OF THE FOLLOWING JUDICIAL AGENCIES: 1) THE JUDICIAL QUALIFICATIONS COMMISSION, 2) THE DISCIPLINARY BOARD OF THE SUPREME COURT, 3) THE JOINT PROCEDURE COMMITTEE, 4) THE JUDICIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE, AND 5) THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL. TABLES AND GRAPHS ARE PROVIDED.
