Annotation: PLANS FOR INTEGRATION OF POLICE EDUCATION WITHIN COMMON MARKET COUNTRIES, AS WELL AS THE EDUCATIONAL AND CURRICULAR MODEL OF THE BRITISH POLICE STAFF COLLEGE AT BRAMSHILL ARE DESCRIBED.
Abstract: FIRST OFFICIAL ATTEMPTS AT EUROPEAN INTEGRATION OF POLICE MANAGEMENT TRAINING INCLUDE DEVELOPMENT OF EXCHANGE PROGRAMS FOR LANGUAGE TRAINING, STUDY VISITS FOR COMPARISON OF POLICE TRAINING MODELS, AND A POLICE COMMAND ACADEMY DIRECTORS' CONFERENCE. THE FIRST STUDY GROUP OF THE WEST GERMAN SENIOR COMMAND ACADEMY TO BRAMSHILL SEEKS TO EXPLORE BASIC TRAINING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION OPTIONS IN GENERAL MANAGEMENT, SPECIALIZED MANAGEMENT AREAS, AND ORGANIZATION. THE BRITISH PRACTICE-ORIENTED POLICE TRAINING PROGRAM EMPHASIZES PHYSICAL SKILLS AND CONCRETE SERVICE TRAINING FOR BOTH MEN AND WOMEN. ALL POLICE OFFICERS MUST START WITH THE SAME BASIC TRAINING, ALTHOUGH OFFICERS WITH UNIVERSITY EDUCATION MAY BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT ADDITIONAL TRAINING AFTER A PROBATIONARY PERIOD. PROMISING OFFICERS MAY RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDY. PROMOTIONS ARE BASED ON OUTSTANDING POLICE OFFICER SERVICE. CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES FOR LOWER MANAGEMENT LEVELS ARE PROVIDED LOCALLY. THE BRAMSHILL POLICE STAFF COLLEGE IS THE CENTRAL POLICE MANAGEMENT TRAINING FACILITY FOR ENGLAND AND WALES. CENTRAL SERVICES AVAILABLE ARE A TELEVISION STUDIO FOR TRAINING IN PUBLIC RELATIONS, A SPECIALIZED LIBRARY, AND LEISURE FACILITIES. THE INSTITUTION IS HIERARCHICALLY ORGANIZED, AND TEACHERS INSTRUCT IN THEIR SPECIALTIES. ONLY CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES FOR TOP POLICE MANAGEMENT ARE OFFERED AT BRAMSHILL. NO PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATIONS ARE REQUIRED, AS STUDENTS AT THIS LEVEL ARE PRESELECTED. STUDY AREAS ARE CRIME PREVENTION, TRAFFIC SECURITY, AND OTHER MATTERS RELATING TO PUBLIC SECURITY. THE LEARNING OBJECTIVE HAS BEEN REACHED WHEN ALL IN THE GROUP ARE DEEMED CAPABLE OF HANDLING TOP-LEVEL MANAGEMENT DEMANDS. THE LEARNING MODEL IS CONSISTENT WITH MANAGEMENT ELEMENTS OF OTHER INSTITUTIONS. --IN GERMAN.
