Abstract: THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES THE PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC SERVICES AVAILABLE TO EX-OFFENDERS RELEASED ON PROBATION OR PAROLE, IN ADDITION TO THE SUPERVISION AND ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY THEIR PROBATION OR PAROLE OFFICERS. THE LATTER HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY AWARE OF THE NEED FOR SECURING THE COOPERATION OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES IN PROVIDING THEIR CLIENTS WITH SPECIALIZED SERVICES WHICH PAROLE OFFICERS CANNOT OFFER. THE EXPERIENCE OF SUCH COOPERATION BETWEEN PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICERS AND THE BERLIN INSTITUTE OF FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY INDICATES THAT UNCERTAINTIES IN THE ROLE PERCEPTIONS OF ALL PARTIES INVOLVED CAN HINDER THE SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT OF A COOPERATION MODEL. UNDER THE DIVISION OF TASKS ANTICIPATED IN THIS INSTITUTIONAL MODEL, PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICERS MIGHT MISPERCEIVE THEIR ROLE AS ONLY THAT OF SUBPROFESSIONAL ASSISTANTS. THEIR SOMETIMES ILL-DEFINED PROFESSIONAL SELF-IMAGE PROVIDES A FERTILE GROUND FOR SUCH ANXIETIES. IT APPEARS THEREFORE DESIRABLE TO DEVELOP PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS IN WHICH THE DIVISION OF TASKS WOULD BE SATISFACTORY TO ALL THE PARTIES INVOLVED, AS CONTEMPLATED IN THE PROJECT 'TEAMWORK WITH PROBATIONERS AND PAROLEES' DESCRIBED IN THIS ARTICLE. TABULAR DATA, FOOTNOTES, AND BIBLIOGRAPHY ARE PROVIDED. BASED IN PART ON THE AUTHOR'S ABSTRACT. -- IN GERMAN.
