Annotation: A PROFESSIONAL IN THE FIELD OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE REVIEWS THE CHANGING PATTERNS IN AMERICAN FAMILY LIFE.
Abstract: AS SOCIETY BECOMES MORE INDUSTRIALIZED AND BUREAUCRATIC, NONFAMILY INSTITUTIONS ARE TAKING OVER THE TRADITIONAL TASKS OF THE FAMILY. THE FAMILY IS LEFT TO THE ROLES OF PROVIDING AFFECTION, COMPANIONSHIP, AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR ITS MEMBERS. THE MOUNTING INSECURITIES AND BARRIERS FOR FULFILLING SOCIETY'S EXPECTATIONS THAT CHILDREN AND FAMILIES EXPERIENCE ARE DELINEATED. THE AUDIOTAPE CASSETTE IS SUITABLE FOR GENERAL AUDIENCES.
