Annotation: THE STATE OF VIRGINIA AMENDED CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES COMMISSION RULES REGARDING MINIMUM TRAINING STANDARDS FOR COURTHOUSE AND COURTROOM SECURITY OFFICERS IN 1979.
Abstract: EVERY PERSON DESIGNATED TO PROVIDE COURTHOUSE AND COURTROOM SECURITY MUST MEET TRAINING STANDARDS ESTABLISHED BY THE COMMISSION. OFFICERS MUST SATISFACTORILY COMPLETE TRAINING WITHIN 24 MONTHS FROM JANUARY 1, 1973, OR THE DATE OF HIS/HER EMPLOYMENT. TRAINING CAN BE OBTAINED BY ATTENDING AND GRADUATING FROM AN APPROVED TRAINING SCHOOL; OFFICERS IN TRAINING ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALL CLASSES EXCEPT IN EMERGENCY CASES. NO MORE THAN 10 PERCENT ABSENCE IS ALLOWED DUE TO INJURY, ILLNESS, OR COURT. EACH SCHOOL DIRECTOR IS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN A CURRENT FILE OF ALL LESSON PLANS AND SUPPORTING MATERIALS FOR SUBJECTS CONTAINED IN THE COMPULSORY MINIMUM TRAINING PROGRAM. THE DIRECTOR MUST SUBMIT GRADE REPORTS ON EACH OFFICER WITHIN 15 WORKING DAYS AFTER COURSE COMPLETION. ALL OFFICERS MUST ATTAIN A MINIMUM GRADE OF 70 PERCENT IN EACH GRADING CATEGORY TO COMPLETE TRAINING SATISFACTORILY. FIREARMS TRAINING MUST ENCOMPASS SAFETY, NOMENCLATURE, AND LEGAL ASPECTS; DRY FIRING AND APPLICATION OF SHOOTING HANDWEAPON; BULL'S EYE; POSITION SHOOTING; DOUBLE ACTION; TACTICAL REVOLVER COURSE OR PRACTICAL PISTOL COURSE (TIMED SHOOTING); AND FAMILIARIZATION WITH SHOTGUN, RIFLE (NO FIRING), AUTOMATIC PISTOL (NO FIRING), AND GAS GUN AND GAS EQUIPMENT. COMPONENTS OF MANDATORY TRAINING FOR ALL OFFICERS ARE CATEGORIZED ACCORDING TO ADMINISTRATION, BASIC SECURITY PROCEDURES, COURT SECURITY RESPONSIBLITIES, LEGAL MATTERS, NOTEBOOK AND REPORT WRITING, AND SKILLS. A SAMPLE GRADING SHEET IS INCLUDED.
