Annotation: Most retailers make it a point to know about the importance of displaying merchandise; yet many are careless about essential security attitudes that can protect department profits.
Abstract: Security attitudes, like safety attitudes, start with anticipating events that could be prevented. Such items as unlocked doors, poor key control, unsupervised fitting rooms, and unlocked display cases may sooner or later lead to theft. Retailers should plan and implement at least one theft prevention measure a month. In addition, they should anticipate, plan, and execute preventive measures in their own departments. These include identifying risks in their own departments and closing them off, using the specialized knowledge of the security staff and investigating all other departments who handle and store their department's merchandise. Thoughtful security is a great profit leader and a strong career booster.
