Annotation: A mechanism of access to some key information resources is provided for program evaluators. These resources include journals, books and newsletters; professional societies; evaluation training materials; and targeted research programs on evaluation.
Abstract: Published literature in the field of program evaluation includes seven journals on evaluation. The listing is led by 'Evaluation' magazine which is directed at policy issues and research/technology developments affecting evaluation throughout the human services. Also listed are several professional journals, some critical references that could be used to begin a 'bookshelf on evaluation,' sources of information about federally sponsored evaluation activities, and some regularly published newsletters. The history and status of the two national professional organizations, the Evaluation Network and the Evaluation Research Society, are described as well as their current activities. Pertinent evaluation training materials are reviewed, such as the Evaluation Training Catalog, which listed responses from 81 to 119 graduate schools of education offering degree programs above the master's level. Some important retrieval strategies and current research directions for evaluation-related activities are given. Future directions for all key information resources listed are discussed in separate brief sections. It is suggested that evaluation professionals can improve the quality of information resources by demanding materials relevant to their needs and by playing a more central role in the development of such materials. Notes and nine references are provided.
