Annotation: This slide and tape program for older persons reviews swindles committed with disproportionate frequency against the elderly.
Abstract: Among the con games dramatized are 'the bank examiner,' in which victims are asked to help identify dishonest tellers; 'the pigeon drop,' in which victims' purses are switched; and 'the home repairman,' in which a repairman promises to repair something in a home for a deposit. Others include 'the city inspector' who discovers violations in a home and has a friend who can repair them for a fee; 'the contract man' who encourages the victim to ignore the small print on a contract; and the retailer's 'bait and switch' trick involving false advertising. The audience is encouraged to be suspicious of persons who want them to take money out of the bank or who offer something for nothing. Included with the program are a list of equipment needed for a presentation, tips on the operation of a 35mm slide projector, a sample news release, a discussion guide for the program moderator, and a typed script of the taped narrative.
