Subsequent chapters present data on the numbers and types of law enforcement personnel employed in each county and an analysis of assaults on police officers during the year. The data indicate that 178,430 Index offenses were reported during the year, with 19 percent cleared. Also, 116,339 persons were arrested for crimes, and 2 police officers were killed in 1978. Appendixes present maps, a glossary, a flow chart, and State statutory provisions which apply to the Uniform Crime Reporting Program.
