Abstract: |
Counselors and victimized children themselves are shown commenting on the emotional dilemmas of experiencing undesirable physical attention from an adult, usually the father or another close member of the family. Ideas emphasized are the private sanctity of one's body, the difference between affectionate and abusive touching, and the fact that the victim is not at fault, while the molester is in need of treatment and assistance. The recommended response is to tell a trusted adult (teacher, minister, relative, or police officer), which will lead to finding help for the molester's problem (alcoholism, etc.) and relieving the victim's feelings of guilt and isolation. |
