This research trained negotiation skills to adolescents (two females and one male) detained in a juvenile detention facility who were awaiting final court appearances and disposition. |

| Abstract: |
The females were aged 13 and 14, and the male was 16. They volunteered to participate in the research during a meeting in which all the residents of the facility were informed that they would learn useful techniques to help them discuss their case with probation officers, attorneys, and parents. Prior to training, each participant's entry level of negotiation skills was assessed. Seven negotiation skills were taught during the training. A multiple base line design across participants was used to verify the effectiveness of the training procedures. Following a pretraining base line period for each participant, training was initiated for each youngster at different times. Results demonstrated that all participants improved their negotiation skills within the treatment setting as a result of the training procedures.
