Annotation: A significant proportion of conventional street crime is perpetrated by young, urban males. By virtue of technological and socioeconomic development, many youth are unable to develop conforming, responsible, meaningful social roles.
Abstract: Roles are generated through structural conditions and modified by institutional arrangements creating for individuals variable role repertoires. The degree to which these are limited or isolating increases the probability of criminal reponse. Role relations variables are identified and implications are generated for social policy.
