Annotation: In addition to providing a progress report on the activities of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), information is provided on international crime and law enforcement in 1981 in the areas of illicit drug trafficking, international currency counterfeiting, civil aviation security, violent crimes, income from illegal sources, and international traffic in stolen property.
Abstract: The INTERPOL progress report focuses on activities pertaining to relations with countries; executive committee meetings; negotiations to conclude a new headquarters agreement; international crime; training courses, symposia, and studies; the 'International Criminal Police Review;' external relations; working methods and resources; and technical cooperation. Information on drug trafficking is broken down according to trafficking in opium and its derivatives as well as synthetic drugs. The report on international cooperation in countering drug trafficking considers international notices, intelligence bulletins and messages, and information received and disseminated. Drug trafficking resolutions adopted by the General Assembly are presented. The report on international currency counterfeiting indicates the extent of counterfeiting used with various currencies, trends in counterfeiting, and counterfeit documents. The resolutions adopted by the General Assembly pertaining to civil aviation security are presented. Information is also included on the eighth INTERPOL telecommunications conference, continental meetings, the meeting of heads of national central bureaus, and the program of INTERPOL activities for 1982-83.
