Abstract: Following a discussion of the prevalence of rape and the stages of rape, the book depicts techniques for handling rape attempts involving a friend or date. The most vulnerable body parts are considered in a discussion of self-defense, and the importance of the time factor (and therefore resistance) to the success of a rape attempt is emphasized. What parents should tell their children about rape is discussed. Also examined is the utility of mace, tear gas, and other chemical defenses against rape. Specific strategies of defense against various types of attacks (such as underarm grasps and being choked) are described and illustrated. Typical rape sites are discussed; self-defense techniques for assaults in hallways, elevators, against inside or outside walls, in bedrooms, and in cars are presented. In addition to safety precautions in cases of car failure, the use of keys and magazines as defensive weapons is described. Also discussed are defenses against multiple rapists and response to rape involving the use of a deadly weapon. Points to remember when attacked are reiterated. The book emphasizes the importance of remaining calm, using common sense, playing on the rapist's gullibility, and taking precautions to prevent the likelihood of being victimized.
