How can law enforcement agencies and other public and private sector stakeholders prepare for and respond to active shooter situations?
Resources on how to prepare for and respond to active shooters are available on the
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS): Active Shooter Preparedness website
. This DHS site offers free courses, materials, and workshops to better prepare the private and public sector to deal with an active shooter situation and to raise awareness of behaviors that represent pre-incident indicators and characteristics of active shooters.
For information on how to prevent and prepare for school shootings, also see the
U.S. Department of Education
report,
Early Warning, Timely Response: A Guide to Safe Schools
. For statistical information on crime in schools, see the
Indicators of School Crime and Safety
report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Department of Education. Access the Office of Justice Programs
School Safety Special Feature
. For additional resources, see the
SchoolSafety.gov
website.
