Abstract
Information pertaining to compensation and recovery addresses conditions of eligibility for crime victim compensation, who will pay for a medical exam for crime injuries, victim compensation rights when the offender is a juvenile, and whether a victim's losses can be recovered from the parents of a juvenile offender. Other victim compensation topics covered are victims' claims against profits from an offender's published account of the crime, recovery for arson victims, and the return of recovered stolen property to the victim. Victim information pertaining to trial, sentencing, and parole focuses on compensation for work missed due to court appearances, who will contact the victim about trial appearances, victim rights at the trial or hearing, victim statements to the court about injuries and losses, protection for the victim from further intimidation and injury by the defendant, and victim involvement in parole proceedings. Other information covers whether the victim will be told if the offender has a disease, finding an attorney for the victim, penalties for misdemeanors and felonies, and victim options for dealing with domestic violence.
