This kit contains a guidebook, materials packet, and six videos designed to foster discussions and activities that will help children ages 13-15 develop the knowledge and social skills required to resist drug use.
Abstract
Each video portrays a story with a theme related to behaviors that can help prevent drug abuse. One video portrays a story in which a girl resists pressure to smoke cigarettes, and another video is a story about a boy who is a good role model for his younger brother. In a third video, two boys see the effects of marijuana and maintain their choice not to smoke it. The fourth video is a story about a group of teens who support each other in their efforts to make safe, healthy choices; and the fifth video portrays two girls who have a party that gets out of control because of party "crashers" who use drugs and alcohol. A sixth video for leaders instructs them in how to plan and start the program. The packet of materials contains a program application, flyers to send to each program leader, the new summer contest flyer, and the first issue of the newsletter for program leaders. The guidebook contains notes to leaders that introduce the program, suggestions on how to use the program and guidelines for how to make the program work for a particular situation, and "warm-up" exercises to bring the group together. The guidebook also contains discussion questions for each video, suggestions for creative activities, and facts and resources for reference information.
