Using both current and historical data, the report examines juvenile criminal activity as well as how the juvenile justice system handles the young offenders. There is an analysis of population trends in Utah, as changes in the juvenile population can have major impacts on juvenile arrests, as well as on resources within the juvenile justice system. There is an examination of data specifically from the Utah Department of Public Safety regarding juvenile arrests which provides a picture of juvenile offending patterns. There is a section devoted to the types of juvenile cases handled nonjudicially and the types that are ultimately petitioned to the Juvenile Court. This section also examines juveniles who are placed on probation with the Juvenile Court and the Court's collection of fines, restitution, and community service hours.
