Abstract
STATISTICS ARE PRESENTED ON CRIME BY YOUNG PEOPLE IN WEST GERMANY, EAST GERMANY, AUSTRIA, SWITZERLAND, FRANCE, ENGLAND, THE U.S. AND JAPAN, BROKEN DOWN BY TYPE OF OFFENSE AND OFFENDER'S AGE. VARIOUS THEORIES REGARDING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY CAUSES ARE REVIEWED, INCLUDING THOSE CONCERNED WITH BIOSOCIAL, FAMILY, ENVIRONMENTAL AND CULTURAL FACTORS. UNDER THE GENERAL HEADING OF COMBATTING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, SUCH MATTERS AS PREVENTION VERSUS PUNISHMENT, EDUCATION AS A REHABILITATIVE MEASURE, CRIMINAL LAW FOR JUVENILES IN EAST AND WEST GERMANY, DETENTION PENDING INVESTIGATION AND JUVENILE CORRECTIONS ARE DISCUSSED.
