FINAL REPORT ON A PROJECT TO PROVIDE ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION FOR JUVENILE DELINQUENCY OFFENDERS OF THE SAN CARLOS APACHE TRIBE IN ARIZONA.
Abstract
PROJECT GOALS INCLUDE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A JUVENILE BUREAU; THE REVISION OF THE TRIBAL CODE, WHICH DID NOT DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN JUVENILE AND ADULT OFFENDERS; JUVENILE COURT TRAINING FOR THE SELECTED JUVENILE JUDGE AND PROBATION OFFICER; THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A RESIDENTIAL DIAGNOSTIC AND COUNSELING CENTER; AND AN EDUCATION PROGRAM DESIGNED TO INTEREST MORE INDIAN CHILDREN IN COMPLETING HIGH SCHOOL. THE STATEMENT OF EACH GOAL WAS FOLLOWED BY A NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
