Abstract
SIXTEEN COUNTRIES PARTICIPATED IN THE CONFERENCE IN JAPAN. THESE INCLUDED TURKEY, IRAQ, PAKISTAN, INDIA, NEPAL, BANGLADESH, SRI LANKA, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, INDONESIA, PHILIPPINES, KOREA, ECUADOR, COLOMBIA, BRAZIL, AND THAILAND. REPORTERS FOR THE COUNTRIES TOLD HOW THE DRUG PROBLEM HAD REACHED INTERNATIONAL PROPORTIONS, PROMPTING THEM TO TAKE SPECIFIC STEPS TO COUNTER THE PROBLEM. SOME OF THE MEASURES INCLUDED STIFFER PRISON SENTENCES FOR TRAFFICKERS, AND CRACKDOWNS ON CULTIVATORS. SEVERAL PARTICIPANTS INCLUDED STATISTICS ON THE FLOW OF DRUGS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE COUNTRIES, AND INFORMATION ON MEASURES THEY HAVE USED TO TREAT DRUG ADDICTION....BS
