THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES A CONSOLIDATED NARCOTICS ENFORCEMENT UNIT AMONG 19 MUNICIPALITIES IN ILLINOIS. THE LAW ENFORCEMENT RESOURCES OF THE MANY JURISDICTIONS ARE POOLED AND COORDINATED TO FIGHT DRUG TRAFFICKING.
Abstract
THE METROPOLITAN NARCOTICS AND DANGEROUS DRUGS ENFORCEMENT GROUP (MEG) WAS FORMED AS A RESPONSE TO THE DISTURBING AND INTERJURISDICTIONAL PROBLEM OF DRUG TRAFFICKING IN THE SUBURBAN CHICAGO AREA. SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1971, MEG HAS ARRESTED OVER 3,200 NARCOTICS AND DANGEROUS DRUG VIOLATORS AND HAS SEIZED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN CONTRABAND....MSP
