A DISCUSSION ON THE CONTENT OF CRIMINAL LAW ITSELF IS PRESENTED, FOCUSING ON THE ISSUE OF WHAT SOCIETY EXPECTS TO ACCOMPLISH THROUGH CATEGORIZING CONDUCT AS CRIMINAL. THE AUTHOR PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE CRIMINAL SYSTEM AND EXAMINES THE HISTORY AND FUNCTIONS OF THE POLICE. A SEPARATE CHAPTER IS DEVOTED TO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AND THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE. OTHER TOPICS INCLUDE THE ROLES OF THE PROSECUTING AND DEFENSE ATTORNEYS, THE BAIL SYSTEM, THE TRIAL, THE GUILTY PLEA, SENTENCING, AND CORRECTIONS.
