Annotation: This report profiles more than 1.7 million juvenile delinquency cases and 146,000 juvenile status offense cases handled by juvenile courts in 1995.
Abstract: The estimates were based on analyzes of approximately 876,000 automated case records and court-level statistics summarizing more than 176,800 additional cases, using information provided to the National Juvenile Court Data Archive by nearly 1,800 courts with jurisdiction over 67 percent of the juvenile population in 1995. The number of cases involving offenses against the person increased 98 percent between 1986 and 1995, while property offense cases increased 23 percent, drug law offense cases increased 120 percent, and public order offense cases increased 48 percent. Weapons offense caseloads increased 132 percent, and cases involving motor vehicle thefts increased 23 percent. Offense categories that experienced declines in caseloads between 1994 and 1995 included criminal homicide cases, weapons offense cases, and motor vehicle theft cases. Adjudicated male delinquents were more likely than female delinquents to be placed out of the home. Figures, tables, and appended tables and methodological information
