Abstract: Crime victim compensation programs are a significant resource to victims of violent crime, as well as their families. The programs provide needed financial assistance that helps victims pay for some crime-related costs, such as medical treatment and loss of wages. Today, more and more programs are establishing an online presence to both publicize their programs and provide guidance on applying for benefits. Prepared by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), this international directory identifies 36 countries and Taiwan that have crime victim compensation programs for the year 2004-2005; 8 of these programs were not represented in the previous edition of the directory. These new programs include: Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, New Zealand, Slovakia, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, and Trinidad and Tobago. In Tobago, the program has been authorized, however not yet funded.
