Annotation: This July/August issue of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) publication provides top stories, special features, and other new relating to the juvenile justice system.
Abstract: This issue's lead story highlights a presentation by members of the National Research Council on the findings and recommendations of an OJJDP-funded report on recent advances in scientific understanding of adolescent brain development; it is suggested that these findings should be more fully incorporated into juvenile justice policies and practices. Special features in this issue include: an OJJDP report on four listening sessions held with families and youth who had direct experiences with the juvenile justice system; OJJDP’s national training and technical assistance resources; a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services letter encouraging State and tribal governments to integrate trauma-informed screening, assessments of child well-being and functioning, and evidence-based practices into their services to children and families; and a comprehensive list of upcoming events.
