Title: Violence Resource Book for Prosecutors
Document: PDF
Date Published: 1995
Annotation: This looseleaf binder presents 22 reports published in 1994 and 1995 by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and the National Institute of Justice focusing on juvenile delinquency, juvenile corrections, gang suppression and intervention, drug abuse, violent offenders, and responses by the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
Abstract: Individual reports describe programs and initiatives to reduce youth gun violence; present statistical data on juvenile offenders and victims; and describe OJJDP's comprehensive strategy for use at the State, county, or local levels for dealing with serious, violent, and chronic juvenile offenders. Additional reports discuss OJJDP's research and development initiative on intensive juvenile aftercare program models that are theory-driven and based on risk assessment, community models for youth gang suppression and intervention, and initial findings regarding urban juvenile delinquency and drug abuse. Further documents examine the relationship between juveniles and trends in violent crime; statistics on handgun victimization, the use of firearms in self-defense, and firearms thefts; the relationship between childhood abuse and adult criminal behavior; the acquisition and possession of guns among juveniles; the results of a Kansas City police patrol project to reduce gun violence, drive-by shootings, and homicides; and the prosecution of gangs. The final documents describe the online search and retrieval system called Partnerships Against Violence NETwork (PAVNET) and the programs of the Office of Justice Programs for fiscal year 1995.
