Safe communities often result from law enforcement working with residents as equal partners in preventing crime. In recognition of this principle, the Office of Justice Programs' Bureau of Justice Assistance, the National Crime Prevention Council, and the National Sheriffs' Association have joined together to Celebrate Safe Communities.
The Celebrate Safe Communities initiative works to spotlight communities' crime prevention efforts, enhance public awareness of vital crime prevention and safety messages, and recruit year-round support for ongoing prevention activities that help keep neighborhoods safe from crime. During National Crime Prevention Month (October), see our Celebrate Safe Communities Special Feature for information, materials, and related sites that focus on crime prevention and community safety.
