OVC TTAC Spotlights Victim Services Consultant

Brett Macgargle is Associate Deputy Director, Office of Planning and Programs, at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. He manages the development of prevention and intervention programs to deal with at-risk youth and provide services to their victims. Apply for NIJ Fellowship Program

Application deadline: June 21, 2010
NIJ is seeking applications for funding for research under its Visiting Fellowship Program, which consists of four fellowships: Native American Studies, Criminal Justice Professional, Geography and Crime, and Offenders and Drug Abuse Research. This program allows criminal justice professionals and researchers to address criminal justice issues relevant to NIJ's work. (NIJ)

 
Demonstration Program Promotes Proven Antiviolence Strategies

Application deadline: June 18, 2010
The Community-Based Violence Prevention Demonstration Program provides funding for localities to support federal, state, and local partnerships to replicate multi-disciplinary, community-based, proven strategies to reduce violence. (OJJDP)

 
Funding Available for Sexual Assault Forensic Training

Application deadline: June 21, 2010
Applicants are sought for the Development, Delivery, and Evaluation of Sexual Assault Forensic Training Programs solicitation. This grant seeks to enhance the identification, collection, preservation, analysis, and use of DNA evidence in order to increase the availability of no-cost educational opportunities for medical personnel, victim service providers, forensic science practitioners, and others involved in treating victims of sexual assault. Juvenile Drug Court Program Builds States' Capacities

Application deadline: June 15, 2010
The Juvenile Drug Courts Training and Technical Assistance Program provides funds to build the capacity of states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to maintain and enhance drug court services for juvenile offenders. (OJJDP)

 
Program Supports JJDP Act Compliance in Wyoming

Application deadline: May 31, 2010
OJJDP is seeking applications under the Nonparticipating State Program: Wyoming solicitation. This grant supports the development of alternatives for juveniles in custody and the development of policies and procedures that address compliance with the core requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act. Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative Supports Mentoring

Application deadline: June 15, 2010

Drawing on a focus group sponsored by BJA in January 2009, "A Full Response to an Empty House: Public Safety Strategies for Addressing Mortgage Fraud and the Foreclosure Crisis" (NCJ 230465, 42 pp.) provides an overview of law enforcement and government responses to mortgage fraud, foreclosure, and abandoned property. Latest ONDCP Update Available

This issue of ONDCP Update (NCJ 230449, 4 pp.) includes articles about America's commitment to work with international partners to reduce drug trafficking and use, and the recent U.S.-Mexico binational drug demand reduction policy meeting. National Drug Control Strategy Released

The newly released 2010 National Drug Control Strategy (NCJ 229210, 127 pp.) serves as a blueprint for action to address drug use and its consequences. This document emphasizes collaboration and innovative strategies and outlines 5-year goals for reducing drug use and its consequences through a balanced policy of prevention, treatment, enforcement, and international cooperation. NCJRS Offers Feature on Elder Abuse

To coincide with Older Americans Month (May 2010), NCJRS invites you to view the Elder Abuse Special Feature. This resource provides links to publications and Web sites that address elder abuse by caregivers, domestic violence among the elderly, and fraud and financial abuse targeting elders. It also includes statistics on elder mistreatment victimization. (NCJRS)

 
Needs Assessment To Enhance Victim Services Field

OVC's National Training and Technical Assistance Needs Assessment Survey is an online tool designed to assess the training and technical assistance needs of the victim services field. Toolkit Provides Effective TJC Guidelines

The "Transition from Jail to Community (TJC) Online Learning Toolkit" is a Web-based resource that guides local criminal justice agencies and community-based organizations in implementing the TJC model. Users of the toolkit can navigate through the nine modules at their own pace. (NIC)

Apply for National Victim Assistance Academy

Apply now for the National Victim Assistance Academy, to be held August 8-13, 2010, in Washington, DC. Continuing Education Units will be awarded to participants who complete all of the requirements of the Foundation-Level Training, Professional Skill-Building Institute, or Leadership Institute. The application deadline is July 16, 2010. (OVC)

Save the Date for 2011 SART Conference
The Sixth National Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Training Conference will be held May 25-27, 2011, in Austin, Texas. The conference will expand the capacity of SARTs to promote health and healing of sexual assault victims and new workshops will specifically address the challenges and needs of practitioners in Indian Country. Up to 25 scholarships will be available for Indian Country SARTs. (OVC)
 
Technology Institute for Corrections Registration Now Open

NIJ's annual Technology Institute for Corrections is designed to provide corrections managers with an opportunity to learn about and discuss technology initiatives and issues affecting the corrections community. The institute will be held September 19-24, 2010, in Baltimore, Maryland. The deadline to register is July 30. (NIJ)
